Propane as an Alternative FuelPropane is the most popular of the alternative fuels. According to the Alternative Fuels Data Center, 59.7% of alternative fueled vehicles run on propane nationwide, from busses in metropolitan areas, to fleet trucks, forklifts and farm tractors. It is the third most popular vehicle fuel, next to gasoline and diesel. Why such an interest in propane? First, propane is one of the cleanest burning of all fuels. That means your engine will experience less wear, and last much longer. Next, because propane is easily stored as a liquid, and expands 270 times when converted to a vapor, with the same size tank, you can drive greater distance than other alternative fuels, such as CNG (compressed natural gas) or electricity. Best of all, propane filling stations are readily available. Ehrhart Propane Gas has powered its entire fleet of trucks on clean burning propane from the beginning back in 1949. We regularly acheive 300,000 miles or more out of our engines. Today, we offer vehicle conversions to customers. The system we use works with any sequentially fired fuel injected gasoline engine. |
