Regulations

First, the fine print: This is in no way a comprehensive listing of all regulations applicable to the propane industry. It is meant to provide guidance to homeowners during the planning process. The propane industry is regulated by local, state and national codes, and we can not possibly identify all of them on one page.

That said, we hope this guide will help you a bit in planning/

Location of your tank

There are two types of tanks used, and the regulations vary depending on which type you have. If your tank is 120 gallons or smaller, it can be placed right next to your house, as long as it meets certain clearances to windows, doors, openings into the home, sources of combustion, etc. If the tank is 120 gallons or larger, it needs to be 10 feet away from a building, and 10 feet from a property line.
